DJ Sammy

Samuel Bouriah, internationally recognized across dance music circles under his stage name DJ Sammy, established his footprint in the electronic music landscape through decades of production, label management, and club curation. Born on October 19, 1969, the Spanish DJ and record producer commenced his formal involvement in the music industry in 1984 by performing in the pubs and dance clubs of Mallorca. To refine his technical capabilities during these formative years, Bouriah completed professional training as a sound technician at the Mallorca Music College. His career trajectory shifted upward significantly in 1991 when he encountered dancer Marie-José van der Kolk at Zorba's Club in Palma, sparking a creative partnership that would define his early output. By 1992, DJ Sammy secured a residency as the resident DJ at the Joy Palace Club in Arenal, where van der Kolk worked concurrently as a resident dancer.

Capitalizing on their club chemistry, Bouriah and van der Kolk began recording together under the billing DJ Sammy featuring Carisma, initiating a string of commercial releases. In November 1995, they issued the single Life Is Just a Game, which featured van der Kolk on vocal duties and swiftly established itself as a commercial success by entering the top ten on the Spanish record chart. Building upon this regional momentum, subsequent singles such as You're My Angel and Prince of Love found considerable favor within the German record market. This sustained output culminated in June 1998 with the release of his debut full-length studio release, also titled Life Is Just a Game, solidifying his transition from club DJ to recording artist. Alongside his studio work, Bouriah expanded his business infrastructure by founding his own proprietary music enterprise, Super M Records, alongside the Gamba Music Company.

The definitive breakthrough for Bouriah arrived globally with the 2002 album campaign for Heaven. Anchored by prominent vocal contributions from Dutch vocalist Do, his dance-pop cover version of the classic Bryan Adams composition Heaven resonated massively with audiences worldwide, securing a chart-topping number one position on the United Kingdom singles chart in 2002. The accompanying full-length release translated this widespread visibility onto the American trade charts, where the album Heaven successfully entered the Billboard 200, achieving a peak position at number 67 on the chart dated August 24, 2002. This landmark release also yielded additional charting singles, including Sunlight and an energetic electronic reimagining of Don Henley's rock standard The Boys of Summer.

Following the commercial triumph of his crossover era, Bouriah returned to the studio to craft his next major long-player, The Rise, which arrived in 2005. This release featured charting singles such as Rise Again, a track that gained additional exposure through its placement on the soundtrack for the 2004 motion picture It's All Gone Pete Tong, as well as an electronic interpretation of Annie Lennox's Why. Demonstrating his versatility as a producer and writer outside of his own artist projects, Bouriah engaged in high-profile collaborations starting in 2007. He remixed the single Tired of Being Sorry for pop artist Enrique Iglesias, selected as the second offering from the singer's hit album Insomniac. That same month in April 2007, Marta Sánchez released her single Superstar, which had been produced and co-written by Sammy, marking her largest hit campaign since her earlier success with Soy Yo. Furthering his production footprint within the Spanish pop market, Bouriah wrote and produced the track Aquí Ahora for David Bisbal's album Premonición and contributed creative work to Soraya Arnelas's album Sin Miedo.

Embracing the global stage, Bouriah spearheaded the Balearic Masters tour, which launched at the close of 2007 and carried his energetic performances across international venues. On these tours, he highlighted his protégé, writer and vocalist Nyah, who lent her voice to a sequence of collaborative tracks including Everybody Hurts, Feel the Love, Animal, and Look for Love, the latter group of recordings co-produced alongside Nick Marsh. Maintaining an active release schedule into the next decade, Bouriah dropped the single Shut Up and Kiss Me in June 2013 featuring vocal contributions from The Jackie Boyz, accompanied by a promotional music video directed by Mark Feuerstake. Continuing his studio output into the summer of 2020, he released the single This Is Who We Are in collaboration with Australian vocalist Chloe Martin, proving his enduring presence within the contemporary electronic dance music sphere.
